The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a double shooting that occurred in south Sacramento.
On Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 10:10 a.m., officers responded to the 7900 block of Marla Way on a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A male in his 50's was declared deceased at the scene and a female in her 40's was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries and is expected to survive.
The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to the scene. At this time, detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the homicide. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives do not believe it was a random act, nor was it a hate crime. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect(s) but he was described as a male dark skinned, short, thin build, short hair, wearing a yellow sweatshirt. He fled the scene in a gold vehicle.
