The Sacramento Police Department arrested 27-year-old Rojelio Cuevas for attempt kidnapping. 

On May 16, 2011, at approximately 3 p.m., a 12-year-old girl was walking home from school near Belmar Street and Lake Forest Drive when a male, later identified as Cuevas, approached her.  Cuevas, who was with a small child, told the victim she was "sexy".  The victim ignored the suspect and continued walking.  Cuevas got into his car, began following the victim and pulled in front of her near Folsom Boulevard.  Cuevas grabbed the victim's arm and tried to pull her towards his vehicle.  The victim was able to get away, ran home, and called the police. 

On May 17, 2011, an officer assigned to patrol the area, due to the attempt kidnapping the day prior, spotted a possible suspect on Belmar Street.  The suspect in the attempt kidnapping was identified as a male Hispanic, 30-40 years old, mole on his face, and driving a gold Ford Taurus.  The officer stopped the possible suspect in a gold Ford Taurus and identified Cuevas as the driver.  Cuevas was found to have a six-year-old child who attended a school nearby and matched the suspect description.   Officers arrested Cuevas that day for a traffic violation but did not have enough evidence at the time to charge him for the attempt kidnapping. 

Through additional investigation, detectives were able to link Cuevas to the attempt kidnapping and obtained an arrest warrant for his arrest.  On May 26, 2011, Rojelio Cuevas was arrested without incident in the 3000 block of   Grove Avenue.  

This incident should be a reminder to parents to talk with your children about how to react and safe spots to go to in the event they are approached by strangers.
