The Sacramento Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting. 

On July 30, 2011, at 3:53 p.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Florin Road on a suspect wanted for a robbery and who was possibly suicidal. The caller provided the suspect's name and that he was in a silver Honda.  

As the officer approached, the suspect abruptly moved his vehicle in the direction of the officer. The officer feared for his life and fired his duty weapon. The suspect was struck one time in the upper body and was transported to the hospital. The suspect vehicle narrowly missed the officer and hit the officer's vehicle. No one else was injured in the incident.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. The suspect was a 26-year-old White male. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time as he is currently receiving medical treatment. The suspect is expected to survive his injuries.

As is standard in all officer involved shootings and per department policy, the involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.  The officer has 12 years of service with the Sacramento Police Department. The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide, Internal Affairs, Professional Standards, and Crime Scene Investigations Units are working on this investigation in conjunction with the City's Office of Public Safety Accountability.
