The Sacramento Police Department has arrested Daniel Karapetyan, the third suspect wanted in connection with a 2003 murder.
On September 2, 2003, at 11:07 p.m., officers responded to a call at Florin Perkins Road and Unsworth Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male with apparent stab wounds. Medical personnel arrived and declared the subject deceased.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. Detectives believe that the decedent and four suspects engaged in a verbal argument. At one point, the altercation became physical and the suspects physically assaulted the victim, causing his death.
Detectives identified all four of the men involved and warrants were issued. On September 10, 2003, Gagik Karapetyan and Ararat Manukyan were arrested and charged with murder. The remaining two suspects, Daniel Karapetyan and Yegizar Karapetyan, fled the country.
The FBI traced the outstanding suspects to various countries. Daniel was believed to have spent significant time in Armenia before moving on to Russia, France and Belgium. FBI agents were contacted when Belgium authorities arrested Daniel on unrelated charges. FBI extradited him to the United States and custody was given to Sacramento Police Detectives on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
The Sacramento Police Department would like to thank the FBI for their support and assistance in getting Daniel Karapetyan in custody. The final suspect in this case, Yegizar Karapetyan, still remains at large for his outstanding warrant.
