The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 36-year-old Robert Thompson for the murder of an unidentified female.
On Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 6:29 a.m., officers responded to the 1000 block of Garden Highway on report of a badly burned body. The fire department had first responded at the request of a passing bicyclist who observed what appeared to be leaves burning. The fire was extinguished and the body was reported to law enforcement.
The Sacramento Police Department's Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and the Sacramento Fire Arson Investigators responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing. The body was found severely burned and as such, it will likely take time and alternative methods to make a positive identification of the decedent. Because identification has not yet been made, the relationship between the suspect and victim is not yet releasable. Detectives did find the victim suffered upper body trauma, but the cause of death is yet to be determined.
