The Sacramento Police Department has shut down an illegal gambling establishment in South Sacramento.
In August of 2011, the Sacramento Police Department was contacted by members of the community regarding casino-like electronic slot machines being used inside the Copy Planet, 2324 Florin Road.
Detectives from the Sacramento Police Department, ABC/Gambling Unit, began an investigation on the business. Detectives were assisted by agents of the Department Of Justice, Bureau of Gambling Control in conducting an undercover operation.
The investigation confirmed that illegal gambling was occurring and there appeared to be a large sum of money being spent inside the business. After reviewing the case with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, the Sacramento Police Department obtained a search warrant for Copy Planet.
The Sacramento Police Department, along with members of DOJ, Bureau of Gambling Control and the Employment Development Department executed the search warrant this morning. At the time of the warrant service, two employees were detained. Detectives seized over 30 computers and nearly $17,000 in cash from the location. The two employees were released pending further investigation.
The Sacramento Police Department has information that there are similar illegal gambling establishments located in the city and are actively looking into them.
