The Sacramento Police Department is investigating an attempted bank robbery possibly related to similar cases in Chino and Vacaville, California.
On Friday, March 9, 2012, at 9:45 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a call to the Tri Counties Bank, 1700 block of Challenge Way, regarding a suspect armed with a rifle. He was described as wearing a black ski mask, and a bulletproof vest under a green-colored raid vest with a gold badge. Although the bank was open for business, the suspect attempted to enter through a locked rear door. When bank employees refused to open the door he fled in a dark-colored sedan. Detectives believe the suspect may be responsible for two additional bank robberies.
On February 29, 2012, a suspect matching the same description, armed with a rifle, robbed the California Bank and Trust in Chino. When police arrived on scene the suspect opened fire, striking an officer. (see suspect photo below, lower left)
On March 12, 2012, the Vacaville Police Department responded to Bank of the West, where a suspect wearing similar gear, robbed the bank armed with a rifle. He was observed possibly leaving in a dark colored sedan. (see lower right photos)
This suspect is considered extremely dangerous.
