The Sacramento Police Department is warning owners of Honda Civics and Accords of an increase in vehicle thefts.
Police have seen a significant increase in the theft of Honda Civics and Accords, specifically 1991-1997 models. These vehicles by far are the most common type of vehicle stolen in the City of Sacramento. Although we have nearly a 90% recovery rate, many of these vehicles are stripped for their parts and leave owners with costly repair bills.
The Sacramento Police Department recommends owners use anti-theft devices, such as a car alarm and a highly visible steering wheel lock as deterrents. It is also recommended you park your vehicles in the garage or in a well-lit area. Remember, never leave your vehicle unattended while running.
It is also a good idea to remove valuables from your vehicle and to conceal items like purses and electronics from view. Thieves look for opportunity.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to criminal activity related to auto theft to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
