Tips on Staying Safe This Summer

The Sacramento Police Department would like to remind the community to safeguard their homes during the upcoming summer months.

Going to bed with your windows and doors open may cool down your home at night, but it is often an invitation for unwanted and unexpected intruders.  Burglars are opportunist and are looking for homes with easy and quiet access. They've been known to strike even when you are at home, sometimes taking items while you sleep.

Recently, the Sacramento Police Department has seen an increase in nighttime burglaries to second story apartments, specifically in South Natomas.

Residents often get a false sense of security due to their elevated location.  Although these latest incidents have been centralized, it is a good reminder for all of us to stay safe and practice good habits.  Remember to close all windows and doors before you go to bed and ensure your locks are securely fastened.
