The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that has left a 23-year-old male dead.
On Friday, June 22nd, 2012, at approximately 8:52 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the Truxel Road, Interstate 80 over-crossing on reports a motorcyclist had been struck and was down in the roadway. Upon arrival the motorcyclist was found lying in the northbound #1 lane of Truxel Road. Citizens were administering aid to the victim. Attempts to resuscitate the male were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sacramento Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene. A preliminary investigation into the collision has led investigators to believe the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Truxel Road, in the #1 lane, prior to the collision. For reasons not yet determined, the motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle, surmounted the median, and was subsequently thrown into the northbound #1 lane of Truxel Road. Immediately thereafter, he was struck by a pick-up truck traveling in the northbound #1 lane of Truxel Road. The motorcyclist was wearing a full-faced helmet at the time.
The female driver of the pick-up truck immediately stopped. She was not physically injured. At this time, alcohol and/or speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.
The Sacramento Police Department urges any witnesses to the accident to contact investigators at (916) 264-5471.
