The Sacramento Police Department has again participated in RAAM (Race Across America), the national road-bike race that spans 3,000 miles across the country, to raise awareness for fallen law enforcement officers. Approximately 19,000 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty while protecting the communities of this nation. 

On June 16^th, 2012, Sacramento Police Officers began their journey at Oceanside, California. They completed the race in Annapolis, Maryland, on June 22, 2012.  The 8 member biking team and 12 member support team completed the journey in 6 days, 7 hours, and 57 minutes. They placed 6^th out of the 18 teams in their division.   

Although one goal of the all law enforcement Sac PD team was to raise enough money to fund race expenses, the primary motivation was to raise money for the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.  The Memorial not only provides a location where the names of fallen officers are memorialized, but assists in various forms of training nationwide. Team Sac PD is still in the process of collecting and processing donations, which will then be presented to the Memorial Fund.

On average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 53 hours. In 2012 alone, 46 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty.
