The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 25-year-old Kaartik Narayan for attacking a Sacramento City employee with a hatchet.
On July 3, 2012, at 9:20 a.m., police were called to the 7500 block of Rock Creek Way regarding a City employee who was attacked by Kaartik Narayan. As the victim and her coworker were sitting in their City vehicle, Narayan approached on his bicycle, smashing out the driver's side window with a hatchet. The employee in the driver's seat sustained minor cuts to her face from the broken glass.
Narayan then fled on his bicycle to his home in the 7500 block of Stallings Drive. Officers arrived on scene and briefly saw Narayan in his driveway, still holding the hatchet. Narayan immediately ran inside his home and refused to come out.
Both the Sacramento Police SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams responded in an attempt to get Narayan to surrender. Several hours later, Narayan exited the rear of his home and was taken into custody by members of SWAT and K9. Narayan was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
