Sacramento Police Increase DUI Enforcement

Friday, August 17, 2012, is the start of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sponsored anti-drunk driving campaign: "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

More than 10,000 police and law enforcement agencies across the country will support this campaign.  Beginning Friday, the Sacramento Police Department, using grant funding from program partner California Office of Traffic Safety, will conduct increased DUI traffic enforcement in the city of Sacramento.

Based on California Office of Traffic Safety statistics, among the 13 largest cities in California, Sacramento ranks the highest for alcohol-involved collisions based on average population.

Grant funds will be used to conduct maximum summer enforcement seven-days a week during the historically high collision period of August and September. This enforcement effort will focus on DUI saturation patrols throughout the city. Drunk driving is one of America's deadliest crimes. In 2010, 791 people throughout California died in roadway crashes that involved a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 percent or higher.

Please direct any inquiries to Sergeant Chris Prince at (916) 808-6069 regarding this campaign.
