With the school year underway, the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD), and other area schools want to remind drivers and pedestrians to be cautious.
As students are returning to school, the Sacramento Police Department is cautioning drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to obey traffic laws and follow common sense safety guidelines around campuses. Distracted driving such as texting or talking on the phone is not only illegal, but especially dangerous around schools, where hundreds of students may be on foot.
"The education of our children is critical to the success of our community, and that success involves ensuring our kids get to school safely," says Chief Rick Braziel. Due to area schools expecting increased congestion around campuses, the Sacramento Police Department is urging the community to remember the following safety tips:
