On Wednesday, September 26, 2012, the Sacramento Police Department presented Ms. Elise Nelson with a citizen commendation award for saving the life of a child.
On July 25, 2012, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Sacramento Police Department officers responded to a 9-1-1 call to an apartment complex located on the Garden Highway regarding a near drowning of a 2-year-old boy in the apartment complex swimming pool.
Ms. Elise Nelson left her apartment, which is directly adjacent to the complex swimming pool, and observed a young boy floating face down in the pool with foam around his head. The young victim was being held by his 3-year-old brother. Ms. Nelson immediately entered the pool and removed the 2-year-old from the water. The young child did not have a pulse and was not breathing. Ms. Nelson immediately started CPR and yelled for help to have someone nearby call 9-1-1. Ms. Nelson continued her resuscitation efforts and was able to re-establish a pulse and shallow breathing just prior to the arrival of the Sacramento Fire Medics.
The Sacramento Police Department commends Ms. Nelson for her heroic actions in rendering assistance during a life threatening situation, and due to her quick response, saving the life of a young child.
