Police Investigate Fatal Hit and Run

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a fatal hit and run accident that has left a bicyclist dead.

On Sunday, November 11, 2012, at approximately 5:58 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Fire Department responded to Stockton Boulevard and Lawrence Drive on reports a bicyclist had been struck by a white pick-up truck.  The 61-year-old female bicyclist was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The Sacramento Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene.  A preliminary investigation into the collision has lead investigators to believe the white pick-up truck was traveling northbound on Stockton Boulevard and struck the bicyclist as she was riding across the road.  The unidentified driver of the pick-up drove off fleeing scene of the accident.

The suspect vehicle was described as a 1990s Ford or Chevrolet, single cab white pick-up with a tool box-type container in the back.  The pick-up sustained a broken left headlamp and has damage to the driver's side front end.

The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information about this accident to contact investigators at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
