On November 22, 2012, at approximately 6:20 a.m., police and medical personnel responded to the 5500 block of 14th Avenue regarding a single vehicle traffic accident.
The vehicle appeared to have been travelling eastbound on 14th Avenue when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole on the north side of the street. When emergency personnel arrived on scene they located two occupants. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and the female passenger died at the scene.
It is unknown at this time what caused the 4-door-sedan to leave the roadway. It was determined the occupants of the vehicle were delivering newspapers at the time of the collision. There is no indication that driving under the influence was a factor.
Sacramento Police Department Major Collision Investigations Unit responded to assist with the investigation. The passenger killed has been identified as a 37-year-old female. Witnesses in the area reported hearing sounds of the collision but no eye witnesses were able to be located.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Detective Doug Tracy at (916) 808-6057, or the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471.
