On Monday, January 14, 2013, at approximately 12:37 p.m., the driver of a stolen Honda collided with a vehicle while attempting to flee from police. The 21-year-old male driver of the stolen vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers saw the stolen vehicle being driven in the area of Acacia Avenue and Belden Street. The officers turned their patrol vehicle around, activated their emergency lights and siren and attempted to catch up to the fleeing vehicle. The pursuit that only lasted seconds, ended when the suspect approached El Camino Avenue heading south on Clay Street, went through a stop sign and was struck by an approaching car that was traveling west on El Camino Avenue.
The two adult occupants of the vehicle that struck the Honda were contacted by medical personnel at the scene, however were not transported. One occupant sustained minor injuries from the collision.
Traffic and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene.
