Deputy Chief Sam Somers has been named the Sacramento Police Department's new Chief of Police. Chief Somers is a 28-year veteran of the Sacramento City Police Department. He began his career as a Community Service Officer in 1984 and worked his way up the ranks and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2006. Chief Somers has managed every Division within the Sacramento Police Department and most recently was the Deputy Chief of the Office of Field Services.
Chief Somers has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University Sacramento and earned his Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University Long Beach. Chief Somers is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, POST Command College, and the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police.
