Please join the City of Sacramento and the Sacramento Police Department for the Swearing-In Ceremony of Police Chief Sam Somers Jr.  The ceremony will take place at the Sacramento City Council Chambers, 915 I Street, Sacramento, California on Friday, February 22, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.  Media is invited to attend and encouraged to arrive by 1:30 p.m.

Chief Somers is a 29-year veteran of the Sacramento City Police Department. He began his career as a Community Service Officer in 1984, worked his way up the ranks and was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2006.   Chief Somers has managed every Division within the Sacramento Police Department and most recently was the Deputy Chief of the Office of Field Services. 

Chief Somers has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University Sacramento and earned his Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University Long Beach.  Chief Somers is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, POST Command College, and the Police Executive Research Forum's Senior Management Institute for Police.
