The Sacramento County Coroner’s office has identified a deceased person found this morning as that of 59-year-old missing person Mark Lauchli.
Lauchli was last seen on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at his home on the 6900 block of McQuillan Circle at approximately 9:30 a.m. Lauchli was reportedly distraught and left a note that he was going to the American River area. His vehicle was found unoccupied near La Riviera Drive and Howe Avenue later that same day which prompted family to contact police and file a missing person report a short while later.
On multiple occasions Sacramento police marine unit, air unit, and patrol searched the area for the missing person with negative results. Several other agencies including Drowning Accident Recue Team (D.A.R.T.), Sacramento County Park Rangers, CHP air unit, Sacramento Sheriff Search and Rescue, State of California Office of Emergency Services, and the Sacramento Fire Department also responded but were unable to locate Lauchli.
Today, at approximately 7:02 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to a report of a dead body found near the 7500 block of College Town Drive. A worker in the area first observed the body approximately 20 feet off the south shoreline of the river.
Sacramento Fire personnel, D.A.R.T., and the Sacramento Coroner’s office responded to assist with the investigation. A short while later the deceased subject was identified as missing person Mark Lauchli by the coroner’s office.
The coroner is looking into the victim’s death; however, nothing surrounding this incident appears to be suspicious at this time. The cause of death is pending the completion of the coroner’s investigation.
