The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 20-year-old Alias McLaughlin for the murder of his three-week-old daughter.
On Friday, May 10, 2013, at approximately 3:48 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department was called to the UC Davis Medical Center regarding an infant that was just transported to the emergency room. The baby was reported as not breathing and despite lifesaving efforts; later succumbed to her injuries.
Police arrived at the hospital, contacted, identified and interviewed family members. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office also responded.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, the Sacramento Coroner's Office determined that the infant died of blunt force trauma to her head.
Homicide detectives, already involved in the case, were immediately notified of the findings. In their investigation, detectives determined that the baby's father, Alias McLaughlin, was responsible for the physical abuse that lead to his daughter's death.
Homicide investigators discovered that on Friday, May 10, 2013, Alias McLaughlin awoke to noise of his 3-week-old daughter being fussy and crying. His daughter's behavior provoked McLaughlin to pick up the infant and repeatedly throw her down and shake her. During his assault on the infant, the mother attempted to rescue her, but McLaughlin physically assaulted the mother as well. The baby stopped breathing and family called the Sacramento Fire Department. Fire personnel responded and transported the unresponsive infant to the hospital.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Alias James McLaughlin was booked into county jail for murder.
