The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a male victim in his 20s seriously injured.
On Friday, May 24, 2013, at 7:49 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting victim in the area of Jessie Avenue and Norwood Avenue. Fire Personnel were first to arrive on scene and immediately rendered medical aid to the victim. It was soon discovered that the incident occurred in the nearby area of the 100 block of Bell Avenue.
A preliminary investigation by responding officers indicated the victim was a passenger in a vehicle when he was struck by gunfire. Multiple subjects on foot approached the vehicle just prior to the shooting. It is believed that one of the subjects on foot shot at the vehicle and ultimately struck the victim. The driver drove to a nearby parking lot where they were met by responding medical and police personnel.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation. Detectives continue to investigate what prompted the shooting and a motive has not yet been determined.
