The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 30-year-old Dominique Nelson for murder in the shooting death of Vincent Vigil.
On June 12, 2013, at 2:18 a.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Bankside Way regarding a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the 26-year-old male victim shot and on the ground in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Victim Vigil died at the scene.
The Sacramento Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation and detectives arrived at the scene a short while later. Detectives initially learned that a brief exchange of words occurred between the victim and his assailant followed by shots being fired.
Over the course of the investigation it was discovered that suspect Nelson, just prior to the shooting, observed victim Vigil burglarizing his vehicle. Nelson, suspecting Vigil of breaking into his car, followed and confronted him. Victim Vigil was then shot multiple times in the upper body.
