The Sacramento Police Department is investigating the death of a person found in a drainage pond.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 5:42 p.m., the fire department notified police of a male in his 20s that was found in the water near the 4500 block of Truxel Road. The victim’s family initially came upon the unresponsive subject at which time rescue personnel were summoned to the scene. Immediate efforts were taken by the family to pull the man to shore. The fire department transported the victim to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Family had come to the pond to visit with the victim who was believed to be fishing with a friend. The victim’s friend was not on scene when the man was discovered by family; however, detectives have since spoken to the subject and obtained his statement.
At this time there are no obvious signs of traumatic injuries to the victim and detectives are investigating this incident as a suspicious death. The victim’s cause of death could not immediately be determined pending the results of the coroner’s investigation. Crime Scene Investigators were also called to the scene to assist.
