The Sacramento Police Department now has more than 10,000 Twitter followers. Twitter has been an incredible social media tool enabling us to send quick bursts of information or links directly to the community.
The 1,826 tweets posted on our account include traffic alerts, photos of community events, and links to the Department's daily activity log and press releases. Our public information officers also Tweet information on critical incidents such as SWAT and EOD callouts occurring in real time so we can keep the media and community informed.
Our Twitter followers experienced our inaugural "Tweet-A-Long" that was launched in October, 2012. This "virtual ride-a-long" provided followers a way to experience a patrol shift from a field officer's perspective via Tweets of information, pictures and videos. We will be setting up a second "Tweet-A-long" this summer.
The Sacramento Police Department's Twitter account has become a great vehicle to transmit real time information to and from the community, and we would like to express our deepest appreciation to our Twitter and Facebook followers. The Sacramento Police Department's goal is to make our city California's Safest Big City and our ability to connect with the community though a variety of social media greatly assists us in our efforts to reach this goal.
