The Sacramento Police Department Homicide Unit has made two arrests in the July 7, 2013 shooting on Mack Road that left one man dead.
Early Sunday morning, officers were dispatched to a shooting, arrived and located a 49-year-old male victim that sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was found at the base of a stairwell near a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 5100 block of Mack Road. The man was not breathing and officers began CPR until Sacramento Fire personnel arrived. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injury and died at the scene.
Homicide and Crime Scene Investigators arrived and delved into the case which ultimately led to the capture and arrest of Reshay Tiara Mott, 19, and her 20-year-old boyfriend, Elliton Jay-Twan Varnado.
Investigators found that Mott had set up a meeting with the victim with the plan that her boyfriend would then rob the victim of his valuables. In this case, the victim met with Mott, was then confronted by Varnado and a fight ensued. The victim fought back, and was shot and killed.
On July 8, 2013, at approximately 6:30 p.m., both Mott and Varnado were arrested in the Stonegate Apartments. Mug shots are being withheld while investigators seek information into other potential robbery cases involving Mott and Varnado.
