On Sunday, July 14, 2013, at approximately 1:33 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to a call of a subject shot in the 7800 block of Cedar Springs Way. Officers arrived and found a 21-year-old male victim lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, tended to the victim and transported him to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. Multiple witnesses were contacted and gave an account of what had transpired.
It was found that the victim and his girlfriend went to the house to meet a friend. While the victim was standing in the driveway with other people, an unknown male suspect walked up to the house, fired a gun towards the group striking the victim, and then fled. The suspect was described as possibly Asian and wearing dark clothing.
Investigators are not ruling out the possibility of this being a drug and/or gang related incident. No arrests have been made at this time. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office is assisting in the investigation.
