Beginning September 3, 2013, and continuing through the month, the Sacramento Police Department will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement operations in the areas with the highest collision rates in the city. Using analytical data, Sacramento Police department has identified the 11 worst areas in the city. This data also indicates the day of the week and the times that have shown to have the highest rates for collisions. Officers will be saturating these areas at the times and day of the week with the highest occurrences in an effort to reduce traffic collisions. The enforcement activity will be going on 7 days a week, primarily in the day and evening hours.
The officers will be looking for hazardous moving violations and distracted drivers that are often associated with vehicle collisions. During the enforcement activity, officers will also be on the lookout for impaired drivers who may be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
