It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Bishop Sherwood Carthen, lead pastor of Bayside of South Sacramento.  Bishop Carthen was not only a man deeply committed to his congregation, but he was also a man of faith that understood the importance of community and building partnerships. 

Bishop Carthen was a devoted friend of The Sacramento Police Department and delivered the invocation at the swearing in ceremony of Chief Sam Somers Jr.   He was also a founding member of the Cops and Clergy program that partners members of the faith based community with our police officers to reach out to at-risk young people in an effort to guide them to better life choices. 

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bishop Carthen and wish to extend our sincere sympathies to the Carthen family.
