The Sacramento Police Department is proud to announce our participation in a documentary featuring the Sacramento Police Activities League High School Mountain Biking Program.
Fresh off a 60-stop National Screening Tour across 13 states, the exciting new documentary, Singletrack High, is coming to Sacramento to help grow the increasingly popular sport of high school mountain bike racing.
The hour-long film follows a diverse group of high school students through the 2012 mountain bike racing season in the NorCal High School Cycling League. Singletrack High explores the wide range of positive outcomes from keeping adolescents active on bikes at an age when many are “trading in two wheels for four,” as one of the subjects puts it.
The film will screen on Tuesday November 5, 2013 at 6:30 pm. It will take place at the JFK Performing Arts Center, 6715 Gloria Dr., Sacramento. For tickets, please go to singletracksacramento.eventbrite.com.
The screening will benefit the Sacramento Police Activities League High School
Mountain Biking Program, one of the six teams featured in the film. The team is coached entirely by police officer volunteers, and works primarily with at-risk youth to open their eyes to new worlds through mountain biking.
Sacramento Police Officer and Coach Robert Mabunga said, “This screening will benefit local high school student-athletes in the greater Sacramento area by providing funds for bicycle supplies, much-needed safety equipment and mentorship. Participating in the movie was a fun and unique experience that exposed the kids to a broader view of the biking world around them.”
Filmmaker Jacob Seigel-Boettner, who produced the film with his brother Isaac, said, "We are stoked to bring our film to Sacramento! The Sacramento Police Activities League High School Mountain Biking Program is a huge inspiration for us as both filmmakers and cyclists. The officers and student-athletes in this program are a testament to the huge positive impact that exploring outdoors via pedal-power can have, regardless of one’s socio-economic background.”
Singletrack High was funded entirely by Specialized Bicycle Components, with the goal of showcasing the incredible impact of high school mountain biking and growing the sport. Additional support was provided by Sunnyvale VW and GoPro.
