Sacramento, Ca – On Monday, December 23, 2013 at approximately 5:23 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to investigate a hit and run involving an eleven-year-old pedestrian.
Officers received information of an accident involving an eleven-year-old boy at the intersection of Bruceville Road and Consumnes River Boulevard. Officers arrived on scene along with the Sacramento Fire Department. The boy was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. One vehicle involved in the accident remained on scene and a second vehicle that also hit the boy fled.
The Sacramento Police Department’s Major Traffic Collision Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. After patrol officers and detectives examined evidence, talked with witnesses and the one cooperative driver, they found that two male pedestrians (one eleven and the other twelve-years-old) were running southbound on Bruceville and crossed Consumnes River Boulevard in the crosswalk.
The twelve-year-old made it across, but the eleven-year-old was struck by a vehicle that was eastbound on Consumnes River Boulevard. That vehicle stopped and remained at the scene, however the boy was also stuck by a second vehicle that had just turned east on Consumnes River from Bruceville Road. The second vehicle did not stop at the scene after the child went under the vehicle. That vehicle continued east and was not located despite officer’s efforts to find it.
The vehicle that fled the scene was described as a white or light colored late 1970s to early 1980s Ford or Chevy-type full size van with a raised roof cap. The roof cap is described as a camper or ice cream type van top where the occupant can stand up inside. Detectives have no description on possible occupants or the driver and are asking for help from the public.
The Sacramento Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver. Alcohol/drugs and speed have been ruled out as factors in this investigation. Detectives are still determining the cause.
