On Thursday, January 23, 2014, at approximately 10:03 p.m., officers responded to the area of 11th and O Streets regarding the sounds of shots fired on a light-rail train and a subject down.
Officers had been summoned by the train operator who heard the shots and safely brought the train to an immediate stop. Regional Transit Police Officers were in the area and arrived on scene almost immediately. Officers were directed by witnesses towards the suspected shooter who was detained while still on the train.
The Sacramento Fire Department rushed to the scene and determined the adult male victim had been fatally injured after being stuck multiple times by gunfire.
Several witnesses were interviewed and homicide detectives were called to the scene to assist with the investigation. It is believed that all involved parties were still on scene and contacted by police. Video surveillance from the surrounding area and from the interior of the train was also examined and is being used to help determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspected female shooter fired multiple rounds, striking the victim who was found by responding officers just outside the train door.
No other injuries were reported and detectives continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
