On Saturday, May 10, 2014, at approximately 5:06 p.m., officers responded to the 3000 block of Guadalajara Way regarding a report of shots fired at an area park.
Officers arrived on scene and quickly determined that multiple people had been struck by gunfire. Some victims were discovered to have been transported to area hospitals by family and friends while the victims located on scene were transported by medical personnel. One of the victims, a Black male in his twenties, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Among the seven total victims that were shot was a 7-year-old girl who is expected to recover.
At this time detectives believe that multiple suspects approached a gathering for a child’s birthday party in the park and fired several shots towards the group. It is believed the suspects then fled the area in one or more vehicles.
At this time, Sacramento Police Homicide and Gang Detectives are interviewing multiple witnesses in the park and are looking for any witnesses that may have fled the area prior to officers arriving on scene. Investigators are asking anyone who lives in the area and has home surveillance to please call police. Detectives believe the suspects could possibly have been captured by home surveillance systems in the area.
