On Thursday, June 19, 2014 at approximately 3:54 a.m., two officers that were riding in the same patrol vehicle, stopped to talk to a subject on foot in the area of North Avenue and Marysville Boulevard. The officers quickly learned that the suspect had two outstanding no-bail arrest warrants; one of which was for the original crime of possession of teargas by a convicted felon. The officers gave the suspect verbal commands in an attempt to detain him for his warrants and the man fled on foot away from the officers. Both officers gave chase.
The suspect fled into an alley and produced a knife in a threatening manner while in close proximity to one of the pursuing officers. Fearing for his safety and the safety of his partner, the officer closest to the suspect discharged his handgun at the armed suspect, striking him in the upper body. Medical assistance was immediately summoned for the suspect. Additional responding officers rendered aid until medics arrived. The suspect was soon declared deceased at the scene.
No officers were injured during this incident.
The identity of the suspect is pending the completion of the Sacramento County Coroner's investigation.
