The Sacramento Police Department is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its collaboration with Nextdoor, the free private social network for neighborhoods. This partnership was established in an effort to make Sacramento the Safest Big City in California.
Since June 20, 2013, the partnership of Nextdoor and the Police Department has dramatically increased communication within our community. This year, Nextdoor membership rose 432 percent, and next year’s goal is to double the number of users again.
“We are very excited about the impact our partnership with Nextdoor has had on our efforts to improve communication and safety for all of our communities,” said Police Chief Samuel D. Somers Jr. “Nextdoor has been a convenient and efficient way for us to ensure residents feel safe and heard within their own communities and by the Police Department. We are excited to announce the progress we have made and encourage more residents to join the network.”
The Sacramento Police Department and residents have worked together on Nextdoor to significantly strengthen “virtual neighborhood watch” participation and increase safety. In the past year, the Police Department has proactively shared more than 500 posts with members on either a citywide or neighborhood level.
“The Sacramento Police Department’s successful integration and effective use of Nextdoor over the past year should be commended and celebrated,” said Kelsey Grady, Head of Communications at Nextdoor. “As proven today, it is vital that the Police Department and residents work together to make their communities stronger and safer. We are honored that Nextdoor has become the conduit that connects them.”
We look forward to our continued partnership with Nextdoor and staying connected to our community because a connected community is a safer community.
Please join us today, June 26, 2014, for a press conference at 10:30 a.m., commemorating our partnership at 7114 Indian Lane, Sacramento.
