On Friday, June 27, 2014, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers responded to the 5600 block of 28th Street regarding a report of a woman down with signs of serious injury.
Witnesses in the area called police after hearing what they believed to be a gunshot and noticed the victim down inside a commercial type business. Officers arrived on scene within minutes of the initial report to find the woman, believed to be in her 40s, with an apparent gunshot wound. Fire department personnel also arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to begin a homicide investigation. Detectives have not determined a motive at this time.
Officers believe that a Black male adult was seen in the area and is being considered as a person of interest. The surrounding area is being canvassed by officers for any witnesses, surveillance or evidence that may help solve this case. The investigation continues to be ongoing and no arrests have been made.
