On Friday, July 11, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to a report of a 14-month-old that was brought to Sacramento Fire Station #17 in medical distress. Fire personnel transported the infant to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Due to unexplained physical trauma to the infant, Sacramento Police Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to UCD and to the infant's home on Andy Circle to assist in the investigation.
Investigators and officers found that the infant was in the care of her mother's boyfriend while the mother was at work. She returned from work and saw that her daughter was in need of immediate medical attention. The infant's mother and boyfriend went to a nearby local fire station for help.
Investigators worked throughout the night and ultimately arrested the boyfriend, Guyland Washington, 19, and booked him into the Sacramento County Jail on Saturday, July 12, 2014.
Sacramento County Coroner's Office is involved in the investigation and the child’s identity will be released by the coroner’s office.
