The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 22-year-old Kelly Thomas and 28-year-old Orlando Rhinehart (pictured below) for murder related to a shooting incident that fatally injured one person and injured six others.  

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, at approximately 5:06 p.m., officers responded to 3031 Guadalajara Way – the location of Peregrine Park in the Natomas area – regarding a report of shots fired. It was soon discovered that two armed gunman had approached a gathering for a child’s birthday party and fired multiple shots.  The suspects targeted a group of adult males attending the party, firing several times from a handgun towards the men.  A 7-year-old girl, who has since recovered from her injuries, was one of the victims struck and treated at the hospital.   Twenty-nine-year-old Jacoby James was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Sacramento Police Homicide, Gang Detectives and other Crime Suppression units responded and performed rapid follow up which led to the two arrests.  Investigators used surveillance photographs of the suspects’ vehicle. The photographs were critical in ultimately locating the suspects.

Suspect Kelly Thomas was located and arrested in New York City on Friday, August 15, 2014.   Suspect Orlando Rinehart was arrested today in Sacramento in the area of San Juan and Truxel Roads.  In Manteca, police located the gold Ford Taurus vehicle used by the suspects.  Law enforcement agencies in Nevada and Arizona also provided Sacramento police extensive investigative assistance.

Due to the ongoing investigation, some specific details regarding the shooting are not yet available for release however, additional arrests are anticipated.
