Despite a steady decline in the incidence of stolen vehicles, from approximately 7,000 reported in 2006 to just over 2,300 last year, the Sacramento Police would like to help you prevent your vehicle from being stolen.
Although the city of Sacramento continues to see a steady decline of auto thefts, statistics have shown particular vehicles are continuing to be targeted by thieves. The Honda Civic model years 1997 to 2000, and Honda Accord with model years between 1992 and 1997, are the leading vehicles stolen, accounting for 20%, or one out of five, reported stolen vehicles in 2014.
In an attempt to prevent your vehicle from being stolen, the Sacramento Police Department encourages owners of the above model vehicles to consider the following:
· Park the vehicle in a garage
· Install a car alarm or anti-theft device
· Park in a well-lit area
· Lock your doors and windows
· Don’t leave your vehicle running and unattended
