Two men in their early 20s were struck with gunfire while passengers of a vehicle, one fatally injured.
On Sunday, February 22, 2015, at approximately 1:46 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received an emergency call for police service indicating someone was “just shot”. Officers rushed to the area of Meadowview Road and Amherst Street as additional information being received indicated a second victim had been struck with gunfire during the same incident.
When officers arrived they located one victim on scene. The critically injured man was quickly taken to the hospital by paramedics. A short while later, officers were notified by medical staff of a second, non-life threatening, shooting victim who had arrived at the hospital.
The initial victim, located at the scene and taken by ambulance for medical treatment, succumbed to his injuries and was ultimately pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed the two shooting victims were occupants of a vehicle when their car was struck with gunfire. It is believed that shots were fired toward the victim’s vehicle as they were driving on Meadowview Road near 22nd Street. The gunfire was determined to have come from the occupant(s) of a second vehicle, also being driven in the area.
Although a specific motive for this shooting is not yet known, detectives continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. Investigators are attempting to locate additional subjects who were in the victim’s vehicle at time of the shooting; no other victim’s have been located at this time.
