This April, in celebration of Financial Literacy Month, the Sacramento Police Foundation will be sponsoring several Criminal Justice Magnet Academy Students and has partnered with the leading education company EverFi. The company brings financial education to over 4000 high schools across the nation at no cost to schools or taxpayers.
The web-based based interactive course is designed to empower young people with the essential skills needed to make sound financial decisions. The program uses the latest in new media technology – simulations, gaming and adaptive-pathing – to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation.
The high school course offers over six hours of programming with ten units in a variety of financial topics including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401(k) plans and other critical concepts that map to national financial literacy standards. The platform uniquely tracks the progress and performance of every student.
Last year the program featured 56 Criminal Justice Magnet Academy Students. This year, it will focus on several Magnet Academy students from multiple high schools including, C.K. McClatchy, John F. Kennedy, Hiram W. Johnson, and Grant High Schools.
More and more evidence suggests that rigorous financial education delivered early in a young person’s development leads to positive financial behaviors later in life. By providing high school students with the knowledge and skills they need to make smart financial decisions, we are investing in the future economic well-being of the communities we serve.
The Sacramento Police Department recognizes the importance of continuing to offer valuable programs, opportunities, and resources to help develop our youth into successful, future leaders. With community partnerships such as EverFi and the Sacramento Police Foundation, we can successfully accomplish the goal.
