The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 52-year-old Fredrick Tatum for the death of a 42-year-old woman found dead in a hotel room.
On Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at approximately 12:36 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a report of a possibly deceased subject in the third floor room of a hotel on the 3700 block of Northgate Boulevard.
The Sacramento Fire Department accompanied responding officers to the scene where they discovered and pronounced the woman, identified as April Fowler, deceased. A caregiver for Tatum called police after becoming suspicious during a brief visit with the suspect at the door of the hotel room, prompting him to request a welfare check for the victim.
Tatum was inside the room when officers arrived and immediately detained. Tatum was taken to police headquarters for questioning prior to being booked into the Sacramento County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender.
Detectives continued to work on the case awaiting results from the coroner’s report. It was soon discovered that Tatum, a friend of the Fowler, had physically assaulted her causing the victim's fatal injuries.
Today, April 10, 2015, working in conjunction with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, Fredrick Tatum was additionally charged with murder.
