In June 2013, the Sacramento Police Department launched a first ever partnership with Nextdoor, a private social media network for neighborhoods. Nearly two years later, the community we serve is more connected than ever before. The engagement among our residents using Nextdoor has grown from 1,500 neighbors to an astonishing 30,000 members. That is at a rate of approximately 1,300 new members per month. Thousands of Sacramento City residents are now able to share information with department personnel serving their specific neighborhoods.
This milestone means more than increasing membership on Nextdoor Sacramento, it is about the ability to increase the level of engaged communication in our neighborhoods. It has been proven that a connected community is a safer community, and in Sacramento that connection has helped to both prevent as well as solve crime.
Recently, a neighbor posted the description of a vehicle used in a burglary on Nextdoor. This basic information sharing ignited a conversation that developed additional leads in the case, which were vital in the Sacramento Police Department investigation and a suspect was eventually identified.
Approximately 85% of Sacramento neighborhoods are now using Nextdoor to communicate with neighbors and police. In the past two years Nextdoor has enabled the Sacramento Police Department to share over 3,100 informative posts with members of this community on Nextdoor.
Thank you Sacramento for connecting with us! Together we are Making Sacramento the Safest Big City in California.
