On Sunday, May 10, 2015, at 9:51 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a report of a shooting at a home in the 7800 block of Calzada Way.
A family member told police dispatch that a 42-year-old man, who also lives at the residence, had been shot. Upon arrival, officers were directed to the backyard of the home where they immediately located the unresponsive victim suffering from an apparent gunshot injury to his upper torso.
Sacramento Fire Department medical personnel also arrived at the scene and the man was pronounced deceased.
Homicide Detectives along with Crime Scene Investigators were summoned for assistance. Detectives sought out witnesses, collected evidence, and canvassed the area.
During a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that the victim was in his backyard when he heard the possible sounds of property being tampered with around his home. Investigators believe that the victim may have interrupted a property crime in progress and the unknown suspect fired a shot in the man’s direction, striking him one time, as he stood behind a fence in his yard. The suspects then fled from the scene in a vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing and a specific motive is still unclear.
