On Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 9:11 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department received a report of a man inside of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound, in the 6400 block of Somis Way.
Responding officers arrived at the home and discovered 56-year-old Duong Chung with an apparent gunshot injury to his leg. Officers contacted the victim’s family members who were also at the home.
Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and rushed the man to an area hospital where he continued to receive treatment for an extended period of time. On Sunday, August 23, 2015, victim Chung succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
During the original incident, homicide detectives, along with crime scene investigators, were called to the scene due to the seriousness of the victim’s injuries.
During a preliminary investigation, detectives determined that the incident may be drug-related and are not ruling out the possibility that the victim’s injuries are accidental or self-inflicted. The cause of death is pending the completion of the Sacramento County Coroner’s investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
