The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 21-year-old Juan Gomez for multiple charges to include assault on a police officer.

On Monday, October 5, 2015, at approximately 12:33 a.m., Gomez approached an officer as he sat in his patrol vehicle in the 6600 block of Bruceville Road.   Gomez lured the officer out of his vehicle by falsely reporting that there was a man with a gun in the area. 

As the officer stepped out of his car, Gomez immediately and violently assaulted him.  Gomez struck the officer in the face, knocking him to the ground.  As the officer fell to the ground, Gomez jumped on top of him and continued to strike him in the face repeatedly.  The officer eventually was able to radio for help and was finally assisted by security officers working in the area. During the struggle, Gomez made repeated attempts to remove the officer’s gun from his holster.

As a result of the assault, the officer received significant facial injuries that required treatment at a local hospital.  After treatment the officer was released from the hospital. However, he will be recovering and unable to work until further medical evaluations are conducted.

For reasons that are not clear, Gomez violently attacked a uniformed police officer. This attack not only put the officer’s life in jeopardy but endangered the community as well.  The officer showed tremendous courage and restraint in surviving this dangerous situation. 

Gomez was interviewed by detectives and later booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple charges to include: resisting arrest, assault, and battery on a peace officer.
