On Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7:00 a.m., Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were assisting local law enforcement agencies in serving an arrest and search warrant on the 3900 block of 17th Avenue. The warrants were part of an on-going, multi-agency weapons investigation in the City and County of Sacramento. Woodland Police Department is the lead agency in the criminal investigation. The Sacramento Police Department, ATF and other law enforcement agencies provided assistance during the service of the warrants.
As ATF agents were serving the warrant, gunfire was heard from inside of the house. A male subject, armed with a gun fled out the back of the residence. The armed male was met by ATF Agents in the backyard of the house where an agent discharged his firearm at the suspect, striking him.
Medical personnel responded to treat the suspect for apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is currently in stable condition. No officers or agents were injured during the incident.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld due to the on-going criminal investigation.
As a precaution, Christian Brothers High School, Father Keith B. Kenny School and Oak Ridge Elementary School were placed on lockdown. The lockdown remained in effect until the situation had been stabilized. At this point, there are no suspects outstanding and the lockdowns have been lifted.
The Sacramento Police Department’s Homicide Unit along with Crime Scene Investigators are working in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to investigate the incident due to the fact that it occurred within the jurisdiction of the City of Sacramento.
