On Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 3:36 p.m., the Sacramento Police Department, at the request of the Sacramento Fire Department, responded to the 4800 block of 71st Street regarding an unresponsive man who had sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of an assault. Sacramento Fire personnel transported the 40-year-old man to an area hospital for emergency medical treatment, and despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. Responding officers secured the scene and canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses. Due to the circumstances surrounding the assault, Homicide Detectives along with Crime Scene Investigators were summoned for assistance. They began an investigation which included interviewing witnesses and family members. During the preliminary investigation, detectives interviewed a family member of the victim who had been detained at the scene by responding officers. The 37-year old suspect is believed to be responsible for the fatal assault. Investigators believe that a verbal argument occurred between the suspect and the victim which escalated into a physical fight. The case will be submitted to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed. The Sacramento Police Department is working collectively with the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office who will determine the cause of death and release with victim’s name once proper notifications have been made.
