The Sacramento Police Department is consistently striving to improve the safety of citizens in Sacramento through on-going education related to the impacts of drug and alcohol impaired driving.
As part of the on-going effort, the department is unveiling its newest intervention and education tool. Using a vehicle designed with the appearance of a taxi cab and a police car combined, the intention is to help prevent driving under the influence by reminding drivers to make smart choices and plan ahead.
Through the use of this vehicle, law enforcement is hoping to send the public a clear message; drink responsibly.
Community members can expect to see the vehicle on the streets of Sacramento starting this week. It will be used as an educational tool and will be deployed at a variety of events, to include; DUI checkpoints, Start Smart Teen Driver’s training, Every 15 Minutes programs and the Know Your Limit Campaign.
The Sacramento Police Department is proud of its ongoing work to help reduce impaired driving and to continue our efforts in “Making Sacramento the Safest Big City in California”.
Funding for the outfitting of this vehicle and the Know Your Limit Program is from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please direct any inquiries to Sergeant Chris Prince at (916) 808-6069 or cprince@pd.cityofsacramento.org.
